This course covers AOPS Introduction to Algebra chapters 1 - 11, including multivariable expressions, systems of equations, inequalities, ratios, percents, proportions, graphing lines, and an introduction to quadratic equations. The content of the AOPS textbook is supplemented with the Russian approach to problem-solving. The first hour of each lesson is devoted to learning new concepts. The last 30 minutes of the class are typically spent on solving challenging problems and/or additional practice.

The AOPS approach allows children to discover mathematics rather than passively receiving information from the teacher. This discovery process makes learning exciting and ensures that children "own" the newly acquired knowledge.

The Russian approach emphasizes connections between mathematical topics. It develops analytical skills and helps the children appreciate the commonalities between different types of problems. This allows the students to understand the structure of mathematics as a whole and appreciate its beauty. The Russian approach also involves a continuous review of past topics, facilitating learning and promoting long-term retention and mastery of the material.
