Advanced Biology
Principles of biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and genomics
and their applications to biotechnology and medicine
Grade level: 8 - 12
Prerequisites: Algebra I, middle-school chemistry

We follow the online lectures of the first-year MIT biology course taught by the legendary professor Dr. Eric Lander. Dr. Lander is a leader in the field and a very charismatic teacher. He was one of the key scientists behind the Human Genome Project, a founder of the Broad Institute, and the Scientific Advisor to President Biden.
For homework before each class, students watch one of Dr. Lander's lectures. In class, in addition to reviewing the key concepts from that lecture, we discuss the material in greater depth, its connection to current research in biology, and its medical applications. Students apply what they've learned to solve numerous problems and do hands-on activities. These lessons make material that's targeted to MIT undergrads accessible and exciting for 8th - 12th graders.
