I'm Dr. Katya Panina, the founder of Socratic Scholars.​
I created Socratic Scholars to share my love for math and science with children.
I earned a B.S. in mathematics from Moscow State University in Russia and a Ph.D. in microbiology, immunology, and molecular genetics (MIMG) from UCLA. Before homeschooling my children, I worked in cancer research at Genentech. I've taught math and science to homeschoolers for the last six years.​​

I teach using the Socratic Method, which involves a continuous dialog between teacher and students. All concepts are introduced via a series of questions, each bringing students a step closer to uncovering the next big idea. This approach allows children to continuously experience the joy of discovery, which nurtures a feeling of awe and a deep love for math and science.
